Scene restore:
The customer wants to make a 20 W PD fast charging adapter, which requires UL certification, class six energy efficiency, no Y capacitor design, and the shell height limit is 18mm.
The adapter is the "most difficult" application scenario of the chip transformer - power density, safety certification, energy efficiency standards, EMI compliance, and four dimensions at the same time. If any one parameter does not meet the standard, the entire product will not pass certification.
The scene of the rollover:
· The inductor floats after recurrent welding and the energy efficiency test does not meet the standard
· Primary insulation is not enough, the voltage test can not beat 3750Vrms
· The leakage inductance is too large to cause EMI radiation to exceed the standard, and the conduction margin is less than 10dB
· The casing cannot be fitted, the transformer height is exceeded
The key to selection: the adapter needs to be "done," not "good."
Watt’s solution: EE1512 – the adapter’s “all‑rounder”
Watt Smart EE1512, Ae = 41.4mm2, 15-20 W, optimized for match scenarios. The cross-sectional area is 1.67 times that of the EE14, with fewer turns and lower leakage inductance in the 20 W power section, and more EMI margin when coupled with a Y-free capacitor design. The 16 × 21.5 × 11.5mm flat package with a height of only 11.5 mm makes it easy to adaptation into the slim fitting case with a height limit of 1 mm.100-450kHz broadband support, adapts to the high frequency requirements of gan fast charging solutions.
